Records are meant to be broken.
This saying held true Saturday afternoon for Belle High School freshman Malachi Fredendall during the annual Russellville Invitational track meet in Cole County.
Placing third overall in a time of 52.92 during the boys 400-meter dash, Fredendall broke Tim Evans’ previous BHS record 400m dash time of 53.20 from way back in 1981 during Evans’ senior year.
“I want to congratulate Malachi Fredendall on breaking my 400m dash record that I set my senior year in 1981,” Evans said. “He’s only a freshman and he must be an outstanding athlete. There have been several athletes in 44 years that have tried to break it. He did it as a freshman and will be an athlete to watch the next three years.”
Timothy Schmid sprinted to a 14th-place time of 13.39 in the boys 100m dash while Ethan Bailey (28.91) and Braxton Ahart (24th, 29.21) placed 23rd and 24th respectively in the boys 200m dash.
