The Belle Board of Aldermen now has one candidate signed up for alderman ward 1, and two for alderman ward 2, while the Maries R-2 Board of Education remains open.

Former mayor Josh Seaver remains the only candidate to declare for the alderman ward 1 seat, currently held by Alderman Courtney Abel. Seaver filed at 8:20 a.m. on Dec. 15 at City Hall.

Former 2020 mayoral candidate, Kayla Bray, declared her intent to run for alderman ward 2 at 8:48 a.m. on Dec. 31, 2020. She will be running against fellow former 2020 mayoral candidate Terrance R. Connors. Connors, who owns Connors Country Lodge in Belle, declared his candidacy at 3:15 p.m. on Dec. 22 at City hall.

Candidates interested in running for the Belle Board of Aldermen seats may call City Hall at 573-859-3513 and speak with City Clerk Frankie Hicks.

Filing closes at 4 p.m. on Jan. 19.

The city of Bland, known mostly for their write-in candidates, had two candidates file on Tuesday, Dec. 22 for the board of aldermen.

During business hours, Alderman Mark Ferran filed his candidacy at 2 p.m., closely followed around 3:15 p.m. by Alderman Diana Mayfield. The Bland Board of Aldermen has two two-year terms and one one-year term for alderman at-large seats.

The two-year seats are currently held by Mayfield, who was elected to the position, and Ned Steiner, who was appointed in November to replace Alderman Sherry Spradling.

The one-year term is currently held by Ferran, who was appointed in October to replace Tommy Thompson.

For more information, contact the John L. Baxter Administration Building at 646-3252.

Maries R-2 Board of Education incumbent Kenda Sanders filed her intentions to run for a second term. She is the only known candidate to declare since filing opened Dec. 15 at the Administration Building, 503 W. Third Street, Belle.

Phone calls and emails to the Maries R-2 Administration Building on Tuesday to inquire about board candidates were not returned.

Filing closes at 5 p.m. on Jan. 19. Incumbent school board directors for the two available three-year terms include Sanders and Tom Kinsey.

Candidates may submit their intention to file at the Administration Building from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Filing will not occur on days the district is closed due to COVID-19 or inclement weather.
