Elizabeth Marie “Liz” Stratman, 94, of Freeburg, passed away Monday, Aug. 26, 2024, at SSM St. Mary’s Hospital, Jefferson City, surrounded by her family.
She was born Sept. 2, 1929, to Henry John and Gertrude Ann (Richter) Struemph in Freeburg.
She was united in marriage to Herbert Henry “Herb” Stratman, May 30, 1950, in Freeburg.
Liz was a faithful member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg, where she sang in the adult choir, and was member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 317, Freeburg. She worked as a switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell, was a screener for Quaker Windows, however her favorite job was being a cook at the Holy Family Catholic School, until she retired in 1991.
Liz was preceded in death by husband, Herb; granddaughter, Kristen Stratman; parents, Henry and Gertrude; and siblings, John “Honse” Struemph, Marie Ortbals, Loretta Klein, James “Jim” Struemph, Bernard “Bud” Struemph, Emil Struemph, Cecilia Schmitz, Theresa Buschman, and Catherine Wegman.
She is survived by sons, Danny Stratman and wife Sherri of Freeburg, and Kenny Stratman of Vichy; daughters, Karen Beck and husband Keith of Freeburg, Becky Stratman of Overland Park, Kan., and Lisa Bexten and husband Dennis of Freeburg; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Janet Struemph of the state of Nevada.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, Aug. 30, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg, with Father William Debo as celebrant. Interment was in the Holy Family Catholic Cemetery, Freeburg.
