For a pair of Vienna Eagle and Belle Tiger cross country runners, their goal Saturday was to finish in the top 25 of their respective races during the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Cross Country Championships at Gans Creek in Columbia.

First on the course were the Vienna Eagle duo of sophomore Duncan Wilkinson and freshman Cooper Auten.

Running against a fast field, Wilkinson placed 34th in 18:10.7 while Auten was 55th in a time of 18:46.7.

“I could not be anymore proud of our guys making it to the state meet,” VHS Cross Country coach David Martin said.

First-year Belle head cross country coach Samantha Eads got to see senior Corey McDaniel and sophomore Baylar Smith end their respective seasons in the Class 2 Boys race.

“I’m so excited to see all the hard work by guys put in all season culminate here at state,” Eads said.

McDaniel ended his BHS Cross Country career with a 93rd-place time of 18.41.2.

Smith concluded his sophomore season placing 107th in a time of 18:54.7.

Steelville’s boys led the Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC) placing third as a team in Class 2.
