David Alfred Schwartze, 73, Vienna, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2021, in Silverstone Place, Rolla.

He was born August 15, 1948, to Alfred Francis and Anna Josephine (Falter) Schwartze, in Vienna.

He was united in marriage to Terry Daley in 1981.

David attended Visitation School and graduated from Vienna High School in 1966. He was always proud that he graduated as the only boy in the top ten of the class that year. He graduated from Southwest Missouri State, Springfield, in 1970, with a degree in finance, the first person in his family to go to college.

David was in ROTC and was a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in El Paso, Texas, and after his discharge, he attended the University of Missouri Law School, Columbia. After graduating with a law degree in 1973, he worked for the Missouri Division of Finance and Department of Social Services.

When Harold Hutchison, Maries County Prosecuting Attorney, died Jan.17, 1976, while in office, David was appointed by then Governor Christopher S. Bond to take his place. He ran for that office in 1976 and won. He was a part-time prosecutor and had a busy civil practice involving banking, real estate, domestic and all problems people in a small county might have. David always tried to serve the community of Maries County, the home he loved.

In 1983, he was involved in a horrific auto accident and was permanently mentally and physically disabled. He lived as contented as a person in his situation could be for 35 years at his home south of Vienna, enjoying food, television, laughing, coffee, and a beer now and then.

David was a member of the Visitation Catholic Church, Vienna, the Vienna Lions Club, and the Missouri State Bar Association, Jefferson City. His contributions to the community and to his family and friends have not and will not be forgotten.

He was preceded in death by parents Alfred and Anna; brothers James Alphonse Schwartze, Frederick John Schwartze, and Alvin Joseph Schwartze.

David is survived by wife Terry, of the home in Vienna; son, Christopher James, and wife Nicole Schwartze, of Toronto, Canada; brothers Bernard and wife Marcella Schwartze of Jefferson City, Martin and wife Terry Schwartze of Holts Summit, and Daniel and wife Rita Schwartze of Vienna; sisters Betty Ann and husband Kenneth Holtmeyer of St. Charles, and Mary Jane and husband Larry Luebbering of Jefferson City; granddaughter Aurora Jane Schwartze; and many nephews, nieces, with greats and great-greats as well; plus other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held Saturday, Aug. 28, at Visitation Catholic Church, Vienna, with a Mass of Christian Burial following with Rev. Basil Tigga as the celebrant and Deacon Michael Brooks assisting. Pallbearers were Donald Schwartze, Robert Schwartze, Bryan Luebbering, Uriah Magill, Alex Workman, and Derick Laubert, with interment at Visitation Cemetery, Vienna.
