County track athletes earn All-GVC honors at Cuba

County track athletes earn All-GVC honors at Cuba

CUBA — All-Conference honors, medals and plaques.

That is what was up for grabs Saturday at Cuba High School during the annual Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC) track meet.

Vienna’s Lady Eagles entered the 4x400-meter relay with a one-point lead over Steelville in the girls team standings.

Placing second to the Lady Cardinals in the event, the black and gold were edged 165-164 settling for second place in the GVC girls team standings.

“Other than a few breaks not going our way, I thought our girls competed really well today against the bigger schools in our conference,” Vienna head track coach David Martin said.

Led by Hali Naber’s GVC titles in the girls 100m dash and high jump, Belle’s Lady Tigers placed fourth with 74 points in the girls team standings.

Starting the meet on the track, Vienna’s girls 4x800m relay team of Morgan Murphy, Jaedyn Schell, Ava Kloeppel and Claudia Wieberg claimed a third-place medal with a time of 12:45.26.

Their Eagle counterparts claimed a GVC title in the boys 4x800m relay with a winning time of 9:12.15 by Brayden Ewers, Jackson Kilmer, Duncan Wilkinson and Cooper Auten.

Belle’s Tiger 4x800m foursome of Connor Wiegel, Carmin Seay, Jon Valley and Baylar Smith earned a third-place medal with their time of 9:46.23.

Vienna’s Madeline Novak led Maries County in the girls 100m hurdles with a sixth-place time of 21.76 while Belle’s Olivia Koch placed ninth in 22.14.

Belle’s duo of Jon Valley (6th, 21.51) and Brandon Gromowski (7th, 22.28) led the county in the boys 110m hurdles.

Naber claimed a GVC title sprinting her way to a winning time of 13.31 in the girls 100m dash. Vienna’s Tori Schulte also earned a third-place medal with her time of 13.91.

Aubrey Rehmert added team points for Belle with a fourth-place time of 14.12.

Vienna’s Gabe Kleffner led county runners in the boys 100m dash with a fifth-place time of 12.30.

Belle’s duo of Lukas Smith (9th, 12.78) and Ethan Bailey (12th, 14.38) also competed in the boys 100m dash.

Earning All-GVC honors in the girls 4x200m relay was the Vienna foursome of Aubrey Reeves, Schell, Schulte and Rosentreter with a second-place time of 2:00.43.

Vienna’s Eagles also claimed All-GVC honors in the boys 4x200m relay with a second-place time of 1:42.40 from the team of Gavin Schwartze, Gabe Kleffner, Brayden Ewers and Kilmer.

Scoring team points for Belle’s Tigers was the 4x200m relay team of Brett Gromowski, Lukas Smith, Weigel and Valley with a fourth-place time of 1:46.62.

Belle sophomore Tajel McDaniel led county runners in the girls 1600m run with a third-place time of 6:22.60 good for a medal.

Adding to his leg in the GVC championship winning 4x800m relay, Wilkinson claimed a third-place medal with a time of 5:01.23 in the boys 1600m run.

Belle’s Baylar Smith (4th, 5:13.45) and Auten (5th, 5:18.75) both picked up team points for their respective schools.

Eagle freshman Thomas Douglas also posted an eighth-place time of 6:02.32 in the boys mile.

Taking fourth in the girls 4x100m relay was Vienna’s team of Andrea Novak, Madeleine Novak, Murphy and Rosentreter in a time of 1:00.12.

Vienna’s boys claimed a third-place medal from the 4x100m relay in a time of 50.98.

Lady Eagle sophomore Madison Weeks claimed All-GVC honors individually with a second-place time of 1:05.06 in the girls 400m dash.

Schulte (5th, 1:08.14) and Schell (6th, 1:08.43) claimed the final scoring spots for the Lady Eagles in the girls 400m dash.

Kilmer led county runners in the boys 400m dash with a sixth-place time of 59.49 while Rollins rounded out the top 10 with a time of 1:11.68.

Belle’s duo of Kaegan Kinsey (11th, 1:15.59) and Adrien Hoehne (12th, 1:16.12) also competed for the Tigers in the boys 400m dash.

Aubrey Reeves earned All-GVC honors with a second-place time of 53.91 in the girls 300m hurdles.

Madeleine Novak also posted a sixth-place time of 1:06.55 to add a team point for the Lady Eagles in the girls 300m hurdles.

Brayden Ewers claimed a third-place medal with a time of 46.20 in the boys 300m hurdles to lead Vienna and county runners.

Jon Valley (5th, 48.87) and Brandon Gromowski (7th, 1:00.08) also ran the boys 300m hurdles for Belle’s Tigers.

Reeves just missed another medal in the girls 800m run finishing fourth in a time of 3:00.44.

Weeks (7th, 3:08.92) and Murphy (8th, 3:17.91) also ran the 800m run for the Lady Eagles.

Vienna nearly had two of the top three spots in the boys 800m run.

Wilkinson claimed All-GVC honors with a second-place time of 2:12.46 while Douglas added team points for the Eagles with a fourth-place time of 2:33.81.

Steelville’s Connor Diaz won the event with a new GVC meet record time of 1:59.06 to go with his winning time of 4:29.65 in the boys 1600m run which also set a new GVC meet record.

Naber nearly sprinted her way to another GVC gold medal in the girls 200m dash.

Edged by Bourbon’s Marissa Enke (27.54), Naber settled for a second-place time of 27.73 still good for a silver medal and All-GVC honors.

Schulte added team points for Vienna with a fourth-place time of 29.38.

Gabe Kleffner posted a fifth-place time for Vienna of 24.80 in the boys 200m dash while Eagle freshman Mathew Hamill placed 10th in 27.27.

Looking to bounce back in the girls 3200m run, McDaniel passed Steelville’s Audrey Turnbough with three laps to go before going on to win the race in a time of 13:40.04.

Baylar Smith earned All-GVC honors and a silver medal with a second-place time of 11:31.63 in the boys 3200m run behind Bourbon’s Brett Payne (10:37.34).

Both Vienna 4x400m relay teams earned medals with the girls placing second in 4:58.65 and the boys taking third in 3:51.58.

Naber claimed a second GVC title clearing 1.40m to win the girls high jump. Wieberg also cleared 1.40m to place second for Vienna based on misses at previous heights.

Julianna Davis also scored team points for Vienna placing fourth in the girls high jump.

Rosentreter (2.29m) and Davis (1.98m) picked up a quick 18 team points for the Lady Eagles placing first and second in the girls pole vault.

Auten made it a GVC sweep of the pole vault winning the boys event clearing 3.05m.

Rehmert earned a third-place medal for Belle with a leap of 4.18m in the girls long jump.

Troy Wulff placed third for Vienna in the boys long jump with a leap of 5.38m.

Wieberg (9.25m) and Davis (9.22m) took first and second for Vienna in the girls triple jump.

Gavin Schwartze earned a third-place medal with a leap of 11.08m in the boys triple jump.

Aubrey Schwartze (10.00m) and Ava Kloeppel (9.85m) took first and second for Vienna in the girls shot put.

Vienna’s Timothy Shockley placed third in the boys shot put with a throw of 10.21m followed closely by Belle’s Myles Butler in fourth place (10.09m).

Rehmert (30.01m) and Kloeppel (29.80m) took first and second in the girls discus.

Brett Gromowski took third for Belle in the boys discus (30.79m).

Kloeppel (28.93m), Rehmert (28.63m) and Schwartze (23.77m) claimed the top three spots in the girls javelin while Butler won the boys javelin with a throw of 36.29m.
