County harriers leave Belle City Park with five medals

Running close to home proved beneficial for five Maries County harriers during the annual Belle Cross Country Invitational held Thursday at Belle City Park.

Racing began with the middle school  boys taking one loop around the course.

Two county harriers posted top-six finishes grabbing their medals as they cross the finish line.

Bland eighth-grader Garrett Gehlert posted a fifth-place time of 12:30.4 followed seven seconds later by Vienna’s Lawson Magner with a sixth-place time of 12:37.0.

Other county runners in the middle school boys race included Vienna’s Ethan Rex (22nd), Vienna’s Alberto Esquivel (30th), Vienna’s Thomas Douglas (39th) and Bland’s Kaegan Kinsey (40th).

Two county medalists also emerged from the middle school girls race at Belle City Park.

Piper Marsee led Bland and Maries County with a 12th-place time of 15:26.8. Vienna’s Larissa Magner was close behind Marsee with a 14th-place time of 15:33.0.

Bland’s Cylee Reed (31st) and Vienna’s Kaylee Bresnahan (42nd) also represented Maries County in the middle school girls race.

Out of 52 runners in the varsity girls race, only three hailed from Maries County.

Belle’s Tajel McDaniel posted the top finish for county runners with a 27th-place time of 26:16.1.

Vienna’s duo of Danielle Murphy and Jillian Fick placed 29th and 50th respectively.

Closing the day of racing out with the varsity boys, Belle’s Baylar Smith collected the lone medal amongst county runners with an 11th-place time of 19:03.5.

Belle senior Corey McDaniel was seven seconds shy of the medals placing 22nd in 20:04.0

VHS’ trio of Cooper Auten (26th), Jackson Kilmer (45th) and Danniel Casey (47th) also ran in Belle.
