Collector reports collecting 94 percent of 2021 taxes

Maries County Collector Jayne Williams said thus far she has collected 94 percent of the county’s 2021 taxes. During December the collector’s office brought in over $6 million in taxes.

She anticipates collecting another two to three percent in January and February 2022, before she runs the fiscal year end and back tax book at the end of February.

The collector’s December collections were very good as her office brought in tax revenues of $6,129,376.81, which will be distributed to the entities with taxes levies within the county. Williams said December 2021 collections were up $276,395.09 from December 2020.

During the month, $1,951,004.49 in personal property taxes were paid. Of this total, $1,937,912.50 were 2021 taxes, $10,971.72 were 2020 taxes, $1,482.53 were 2019 taxes, and $637.74 were 2018 taxes.

Total real estate taxes paid during December by Maries County landowners was $3,190,547.52. Of this total, $3,178,340.89 were 2021 real estate taxes, $6,515.08 were 2020 taxes, and $5,691.55 were 2019 taxes. Railroad and utility taxes for 2021 paid to Maries County totaled $985,349.80.

Merchant licenses for 2022 sales totaled $2,475. The grand total collected in the county collector’s office was $6,129,376.81.
