Cold, dreary weather does not stop trunk-or-treaters

Owensville’s first trunk-or-treat in two years was greeted by cold, wind and a fine rain on Friday. Many of the over 30 trunks used canopies to say somewhat dry for the youngsters. The bad weather did not seem to hold back the crowd with many trucks giving out candy from 5 to 7 p.m. before the crowd wound down. The Owensville Area Ambulance District won the best trunk contest (right) with two masked skeletons inside one of their ambulances. Other trunk winners were Amber Hendrix and Family, second and Chastity Menz CPA, third. Winners of the costume contest were 4 to 6-year-olds: Trinity Pratt, first, Andrew Allen, second and Pazlee Botkin, third; 7 to 8-year-olds: Abigail Corbitt, first, Brett Sassmann, second and Georgia Kramme, third; 9 to 11-year-olds: Lila Terschluse, first, Connor Henderson, second and Eleanor Spurgeon third. Keira Hendrix (left, photo bottom left) and her sister Kyla had the tough job of judging this year’s costumes. Kyla was this year’s Gasconade County Fair Queen. Keira was second runner-up. Pratt also won the costume contest in Gerald on Saturday. She is pictured with her costume entitled “Fruit Loops” on page 15. Owensville’s trunk or treat was sponsored this year by the Owensville Chamber of Commerce. Watch our Facebook page for more photos from this event.
