Clifton Lee Frey, 77, St. James, passed away Tuesday Aug. 24, 2021, at the Harry S Truman Veterans Hospital in Columbia.

He was born on April 18, 1944, to Clifford and Beulah Crum Frey, in Rolla.

He was united in marriage to Silvia Diane Williams, Dec, 20, 1970, in Vienna.

Clifton volunteered with the fire department for many years and joined when he was 17 years old. He served in the U.S. Air Force where he worked as an engine mechanic and was honorably discharged on March 18, 1966. After he returned home, he worked for his dad, digging graves and hauling creek gravel. Later he started his own business operating a backhoe and selling gravel. His father being a minister, Clifton followed his father footsteps and became a minister for several years, and preached where his dad preached.

He is preceded in death by parents Clifford and Beulad; brothers Melvin and Paul Frey; and sister Jean Dalgren.

He is survived by wife Silvia; sons Robert and wife Karen Merrow of Waldren, Ark., Sam Merrow of Washington state; daughters Alicia and husband Scott Gabel of St. James and Tammy and husband Mike Conaway of St. James; and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildern.

Memorial Service will be held at Friday Sept. 11, at 11:00 a.m. at the Jones Funeral Home, St. James, with Stephen Brubaker officiating. Internment will be in the Wishon Cemetery.
