Charles Lewis Barnhart, age 84, of Meta, passed away surrounded by his family Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City.
He was born Jan. 15, 1940, on his family farm on the outskirts of Meta, son of the late Arlie and Vada (Bilyeu) Barnhart.
On July 13, 1963, in Lohman, Charles was united in marriage to Ruby Sauer, who survives at their home.
Charles Lewis was a farmer and logger. At age 16, he began working in the timber business by cutting stave bolts. He co-owned and operated Barnhart Logging from 1988 until ill health forced his retirement in 2022.
He was preceded in death by parents, Arlie and Vada; sister, Clarice Barnhart; and brothers-in-law, Truman and Leroy Sauer.
Charles is survived by loving wife, Ruby Barnhart; daughter, Amy (Kevin) Forbis of Russellville; son, Brian Barnhart of Meta; and sisters-in-law, Arlene Sauer and Alice Sauer both of Russellville.
A graveside service was held Saturday, Aug. 17, at Stokes Cemetery near Van Cleve.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Stokes Cemetery Fund.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Meta.
