Maries County has joined the list of governmental bodies to be sued by Ron and Anne Calzone of the Dixon area of the county. It’s another issue the elected county commissioners will have to deal with during this period of national crisis.
In the 25th Judicial Circuit, Judge John D. Beger, on April 20, 2020, the Calzones filed for a declaratory judgment against respondents Presiding Commissioner Victor Stratman and the Maries County Commission asking for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction. Calzone posted the Case.net entry on his Facebook page.
Calzone obtained entrance to the courthouse on April 6. The commissioners then met with him outside the closed to the public courthouse. He objected to the county commission closing the courthouse. The commissioners closed the courthouse per Governor Mike Parson’s order to avoid mass gatherings and to not participate in being a site for spreading the COVID-19 coronavirus.
