Carla Butler of Belle has been promoted from office manager to administrator of the Maries Osage Ambulance District (MOAD), effective Aug. 22. MOAD board members made the decision during closed session following the August meeting.
Previous administrator Brian Opoka of Raymore has relinquished his position, citing too much responsibility to maintain at his distance as well as working his full-time job at John Knox Village in Lee’s Summit. Opoka also is working on a degree in public administration and he wants more family time.
Opoka began as MOAD administrator in January 2014. Previously, as a paramedic, he worked on the ambulance trucks with MOAD crew members. He will continue on the payroll as the district’s Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement (QA and QI) officer, handling oversight on ambulance reports, the monthly reports to the district medical director, and the monthly medical director reports. He said he will help if Butler needs assistance and will fill in for her when she takes time off.
“I feel me leaving and the new administrator role being a full-time position will be better suited for the district,” Opoka said.
Butler has been office manager for MOAD since November 2014 and worked at MOAD previously as well. She has handled the day-to-day work for the district from the Vienna base. She will continue her office duties such as billing, payroll, accounts receivable and payable, scheduling and medical supply ordering, and more.
