Bland’s Lady Bears cap sweet 16-0 season

BOURBON — Fresh off a victory over Steelville on parent night last Tuesday at Bland Middle School, Drew Lansford’s eighth-grade Bland Lady Bears carried a 15-0 record into their annual day game Thursday with Bourbon’s Lady Warhawks along Interstate 44 in Crawford County.

Taking a 31-13 lead into halftime, Lansford’s Lady Bears were able to get every player into the game in the second half to help Bland cap an undefeated 16-0 season following a 48-21 victory over the host Lady Warhawks.

Leading 15-5 after one quarter, Bland was led with six points from Saige Garner.

Anastyn Lansford (4), Ava Feeler (3) and Adalyn Walters (2) also scored points for the Lady Bears in the first six minutes.

Doubling up Bourbon 16-8 in the second quarter, Bland went into halftime with a 31-13 lead over the Lady Warhawks.

Feeler led the Lady Bears with five second-quarter points followed by four from Garner, three from Anastyn Lansford, two from Walters and two from Cylee Reed.

Third-quarter action saw Bland outscore Bourbon 12-2 bumping their lead to 43-15 with only six minutes of basketball separating them from an undefeated season.

Even though they were edged 6-5 by Bourbon in the fourth quarter, Bland went on to capture their 16th and final victory of the season.

Anastyn Lansford led the Lady Bears and all scorers with a game-high 14 points.

Feeler and Garner made it three Bland players in double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively.

Walters scored two points in each quarter giving her eight for the game.

Piper Marsee scored all three of her points in the fourth quarter while Reed rounded out the scoring with a second-quarter basket for two points.

Also on the roster for the undefeated Bland Lady Bears are Nolie Finnegan, Natalie Lansford, Makenna Lange, Zoey Camden and Lydia Jones.

Following the eighth-grade contest, a two-quarter seventh-grade game was played in front of the Bourbon Middle School (BMS) student body in Crawford County.

Bland took an 11-2 lead after one quarter before going on to a 26-3 victory completing the doubleheader sweep along Interstate 44.

Jones led the Lady Bears with four first-quarter points to go along with three points from Finnegan.

Marsee and Lange also added two first-quarter points for Bland.

Natalie Lansford and Camden joined the scoring column for the Lady Bears in the second quarter.

Finishing with a game-high 11 points, Jones led the Lady Bears in the seventh-grade game against Bourbon.

Finnegan followed Jones with five points for Bland.
