Bland, Vienna track open April at Eugene

Before Mother Nature dropped multiple inches of rain throughout the area, Bland and Vienna Middle School’s track teams were able to get a meet in last Tuesday at Eugene.

Team scores were not kept but three county individuals and Vienna’s Eagle 4x200-meter relay team won their respective events in Cole County.

In field events, Bland’s Natalie Lansford cleared 1.25m in the girls high jump to finish in a three-way tie with New Franklin’s Ava Smith and St. Elizabeth’s Macy Bax.

Vienna’s Alexis Curtis also cleared 1.15m in the event to finish tied for sixth with Anika Young (Blair Oaks), Riley Hulsey (St. Peters), Quinn Maassen (Blair Oaks) and Jovi Bond (Eugene).

Liberty Rowden won the lone event for Vienna’s Lady Eagles with a first-place toss of 9.80m in the girls shot put.

Liberty was not the only Rowden from Vienna to win an event at Eugene.

Jake Rowden recorded a first-place time of 16.63 in the boys 100m hurdles.

Topping the field by over two seconds in the boys 4x200m relay, Vienna’s Eagle foursome of Adam Kraemer, Alex Wieberg, Paxten Jeremy and Eli Messersmith posted a winning time of 1:52.54.

Also taking fifth with a time of 2:02.77 was the Bland Bear 4x200m relay team of Owen Dobson, Alden Zabel, Weston Sadler and Cason Taylor.

Leading the Bear relay teams at Eugene was the Bland boys 4x400m relay team of Michael Felton, Coltin Hazelwood, Jackson Prater and Taylor with a fourth-place time of 4:36.66.

Vienna’s boys 4x100m relay team of Weston Schwartze, Parker James, Cooper Kleffner and Drew Crum posted a ninth-place time of 1:01.53 for the Eagles.

Jack Stratman led nine Maries County in the boys 100m dash with an 18th-place time of 14.10.

  County athletes following Stratman in the boys 100m dash included Schwartze (20th, 14.22), Crum (41st, 15.96), Vienna’s David Martin (47th, 16.94), Vienna’s Clay Curler (48th, 16.95), Bland’s Ryder Huebner (51st, 17.40), Vienna’s Gunther Rowden (53rd, 17.72), Vienna’s Walker Jeremy (56th, 18.25) and Bland’s Ayce Saebens (57th, 18.64).

Adding to his win in the boys 100m dash, Vienna’s Jake Rowden also took second in a time of 27.09 in the boys 200m dash.

Vienna’s Dreygen Messersmith also posted a 12th-place time of 29.25 in the boys 200m dash.

Bland’s Cason Taylor rounded out the top 10 of the boys 400m dash with a 10th-place time of 1:08.90.

Vienna’s Paxten Jeremy led nine Maries County runners in the boys 800m run with a third-place time of 2:24.77.

County runners following Jeremy included Hazelwood (6th, 2:32.95), Prater (7th, 2:33.45), Felton (8th, 2:40.10), Vienna’s Eli Messersmith (10th, 2:45.85), Wieberg (11th, 2:53.27), Bland’s Dakota Stockton (15th, 2:56.74), Bland’s Tharon Kent (22nd, 3:07.25) and Bland’s Treyton Huebner (28th, 3:34.70).

Tanner Hallahan placed eighth for Vienna in the boys 1600m run with a time of 6:02.81.

Bland’s Jacob Penserum led seven county throwers in the boys shot put with a 17th-place toss of 7.39m.

Following Penserum were Bland’s Waylyn Weller (20th, 7.24m), Kraemer (21st, 7.21m), Bland’s Michael Spurgeon (26th, 6.99m), Bland’s Wyatt Weller (33rd, 6.80m), Martin (34th, 6.73m) and Walker Jeremy (37th, 5.96m).

On the girls side, Vienna and Bland placed second and third respectively in the girls 4x400m relay.

Lady Eagles running to a second-place time of 5:13.31 in the event included Emerson Jeremy, Grace Barnhart, Clara Jones and Sophia Neubert.

Lady Bears posting a third-place time of 5:13.63 included Ava Prater, Katie Williams, Kali Mayfield and Lansford.

Vienna’s girls 4x100m relay team of Raleigh Walker, Alison Campbell, Riley McKinnon and Curtis sprinted to a ninth-place time of 1:09.34.

Maries County sprinters in the girls 100m dash included Lansford (3rd, 14.04), Williams (25th, 15.84), Mayfield (31st, 16.06), Vienna’s Kaitlyn Carpenter (49th, 17.09), Vienna’s Grace Veasman (55th, 18.03), Bland’s Ignacia Francis (58th, 19.31) and Bland’s Cali Maxey (60th, 20.92).

Competing in the girls 200m dash from Maries County were Curtis (11th, 23.06), Vienna’s Scarlett Weeks (16th, 33.06), Liberty Rowden (25th, 35.28), Maxey (41st, 37.53), Bland’s Temperance Bray (50th, 39.47), Vienna’s Elise Kilmer (51st, 41.03) and Campbell (52nd, 42.88).

Vienna’s Rowan Walker also placed 22nd in the girls 400m dash with a time of 1:27.62.

Neubert led seven county runners in the girls 800m run with a fourth-place time of 2:59.26.

Following Neubert was Bland’s Skylar Stephens (7th, 3:08.34), Jones (10th, 3:17.34), Bland’s Gracelyn Jarvis (12th, 3:19.31), Bland’s Marianne Francis (15th, 3:31.52), Carpenter (16th, 3:33.27) and McKinnon (22nd, 4:09.59).

Ava Prater posted her best finish of the meet for Bland with a third-place time of 6:32.53 in the girls 1600m run.

Emerson Jeremy, Neubert and Barnhart all cleared 1.77m in the girls pole vault to place tied for second along with St. Elizabeth’s Clarice Green.

Rowan Walker also took sixth clearing 1.62m.

Taking six of the top 10 spots in the girls long jump from Maries County were Weeks (2nd, 8.39m), Raleigh Walker (3rd, 7.90m), Curtis (4th, 7.78m), Stevens (8th, 7.48m), Prater (9th, 7.20m) and Vienna’s Lilly Williams (10th, 7.12m).

Following Liberty Rowden’s winning throw of 9.80m in the girls shot put from Maries County were Mayfield (6th, 8.20m), Veasman (12th, 6.96m), Bland’s Emilyn Lewis (13th, 6.80m), McKinnon (14th, 6.70m), Bland’s Trinity Hedrick (19th, 6.40m) and Bland’s Lucie Scott (27th, 5.60m).

Next up for both schools will be the Vienna Middle School Black and Gold Invitational tomorrow (Thursday) at Vienna High School’s track with events beginning at 3 p.m.
