Six is a serious number.

That was the case for Belle Lady Tiger track seniors Gracie Schultz and Susie Moman Saturday during the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 2, Sectional 1 Track Meet at South Callaway High School in Mokane.

Competing in seven events between the two of them, Moman and Schultz managed top-four finishes in six of them qualifying them for Friday’s Class 2 MSHSAA Track and Field Championships.

Starting bright and early at 9 a.m., with field events, Schultz and Moman were competing simultaneously in the long jump and javelin respectively.

For Schultz in the long jump, she placed second with a leap of 5.18 meters (17 feet).

This also broke the Belle High School record in the event previously held back in 2000 by Anna Smith of 16 feet, 10 inches.

Out throwing the field by nearly four meters, Moman won a sectional title in the girls javelin with a toss of 38.44m.

In the next set of field events at 11 a.m., Moman competed in her second sectional event in the girls shot put.

With a throw of 10.54m, Moman placed third earning a state berth in her second event.

Moving into the afternoon portion of the meet, Moman was competing in the girls discus while Schultz was on the track in the 100-meter dash.

Sprinting to a fourth-place time of 13.05, Schultz qualified for her second event at the state meet scheduled for Friday.

Looking to go to state in a third event, Moman got the job done in the discus.

Posting a third-place throw of 32.11m, Moman punched her third ticket to state.

Schultz’s final two events took place towards the end of the meet in the girls triple jump and the 200-meter dash.

Similar to the 100m dash, Schultz grabbed the final qualifying spot for state with a fourth-place time of 27.19 in the 200m dash.

Also going for a clean sweep of top-four finishes in her events, Schultz just missed the top four in the triple jump with a fifth-place leap of 10.15m.

Friday will be a long, spread out day for both Moman and Schultz.

Moman’s day at Jefferson City High School’s Adkins Stadium will begin Friday at 11 a.m., with the Class 2 Girls Discus before moving on to the Class 2 Girls Javelin at 1 p.m.

Her day will conclude at 3 p.m., with the Class 2 Girls Shot Put.

Schultz’s day won’t begin until the early afternoon hours Friday with the Class 2 Girls 100m dash at 1:30 p.m.

While Moman is over at the shot put in the 3 p.m., set of field events, Schultz will also be competing in the Class 2 Girls Long Jump at the same time.

Schultz will end her day at state track at 5 p.m., with the Class 2 Girls 200m dash.
