Belle woman faces charges after Belle PD locates 113 grams of marijuana

BELLE — A Belle woman involved in a domestic dispute has charges pending for possession of 113 grams of marijuana according to Police Chief Jerry Coborn.

Coborn said the incident took place on Feb. 1 when he was called to a house in the 600 block of Johnson Avenue.

“A woman was under the influence of meth and had taken 13 pills because her boyfriend broke up with her when she admitted to him that she was back on meth,” Coborn said. “After he packed up his stuff, she took 13 pills and said she wanted to die. When I got there she had already taken all of the pills and was laying there on the bed waiting to fall asleep.”

Coborn said he located 113 grams or four ounces of marijuana at the residence that was not from a dispensary or labeled. He also located drug paraphernalia and THC wax.

“It is an automatic felony for the wax,” Coborn said. “We found four containers with wax residue. A bottle of the liquid was THC sustenance with a 70 percent rating.”

Coborn acknowledged that there was a lot of lashing out on Facebook for marijuana confiscation.

“Many people are not happy with the confiscation of the marijuana because it wasn’t from a legal dispensary and didn’t have the woman’s name on it,” he said. “There were four wax pins used up. You can buy them from a dispensary but you are supposed to have a prescription.  You can have a needle-point of wax synthetic and can have a felony.”

Coborn said the woman does not yet have charges filed against her for possession, but they are pending. She has not been identified because she has not been charged with a crime.

“She is seeking help at the moment,” Coborn said, adding that she was taken by ambulance for a 96-hour hold.”

Coborn added that while marijuana is legal in some cases, laws must still be obeyed. The city is in the process of making ordinances to match the new laws.

“We are changing our city ordinances and laws inside the city based on the fact that new laws have been passed,” he said. “(People) do not have to have a prescription for three ounces of marijuana. They can legally possess three ounces or less if they are of smoking age.”

Coborn said he is working with other entities to help resolve the matter. Wax and other forms of THC are becoming a common problem in the city.

“Right now these drugs are rampant all over Belle,” Coborn said. “A parent took some from her student and called me to take possession of it recently. He bought it from another student but wouldn’t give me a name. The public needs to know it is being sold.”
