BELLE — The Belle Police Department (BPD), with the assistance of K-9 Officer Kimon, arrested two men on March 11 for alleged possession of 37 grams of suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Both were charged on March 12 and are being held at the Maries County Jail on $100,000 bonds.

Kyle Lampkin of Belle and Parker Jones of Cuba were arrested on March 11 by the BPD for alleged possession of controlled substances. The items were located when Sgt. Mark Morgan conducted a traffic stop on Third Street near Belle City Park. Morgan was assisted by K-9 Officer Kimon.

“It wasn’t the first arrest, but the first one where we located quite a bit of controlled substances,” said Morgan. “The driver was Kyle Lampkins who had multiple warrants out of just about every surrounding jurisdiction — Maries, Osage and Gasconade.”

Lampkin also had a revoked (license) and denied consent to search the vehicle. K-9 Kimon was deployed around the outside of the vehicle and alerted to the odor of narcotics.

“We conducted a search of the vehicle and located about 37 grams of suspected methamphetamine along with drug paraphernalia,” he said.

Jones was a passenger in the vehicle at the time.

Lampkin and Jones were placed under arrest and transported to Maries County Jail pending a warrant application, which went through on March 12, the following day.

Maries County Associate Judge Kerry Rowden issued an arrest warrant for Lampkin and Jones with the $100,000 cash bonds each in addition to multiple charges.

Lampkin was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia prior offender (Class A misdemeanor); driving while revoked (Class D misdemeanor); failure to signal turn (Class C misdemeanor); and failure to wear a seat belt (infraction).

Jones was charged with delivery of a controlled substance (Class C felony); possession of drug paraphernalia (Class D misdemeanor); and failure to wear a seat belt (infraction).

Morgan said he is pleased with K-9 Kimons work.

“We are not quite at our first full month yet with K-9 Kimon,” Morgan said. “I am real proud of him. It didn’t take him long to get right back into the mix. I look forward to continuing to work with him. I know we are going to continue to eradicate the drugs in the city limit and any other surrounding areas that call.”
