Belle PD assists in capture of wanted offender

BELLE — Belle Police Chief Jerry Coborn on Feb. 16 was able to apprehend an unregistered sex offender wanted by the United States Marshal Service (USMS).

Nicholas Yarbor of Crawford County was residing at a residence in Belle. USMS advised that Yarbor was wanted for failing to register as a sex offender and had an active felony warrant out in Crawford County and was considered to be armed and dangerous.

“About a week ago, on Feb. 9, three U.S. marshals, two Crawford County deputies and Missouri State Highway Patrol surrounded a trailer off of Fifth Street in Belle,” Coborn said. “Yarbor was wearing a tracker for a while and that was his last known location before he took the tracker off. He didn’t register anywhere else.”

USMS had a nationwide warrant out for Yarbor’s arrest for failure to register as a sex offender as well.

Coborn said he received a tip around 10 p.m. on Feb. 16 that Yarbor had returned to the residence.

“We heard he was back, got geared up and called Sgt. Mark Morgan to the residence,” Coborn said.

When the officers failed to locate Yarborr, they cleared the scene.

“I went back to my house and parked the vehicle at my residence and walked back,” Coborn said. “I figured he was still around there and walked around on foot. I found him at the second to the last trailer trying to hide.”

Coborn said he pulled his taser on Yarbor and told him not to move.

“Mark showed up about 10 minutes later and took him to Maries County Jail without incident,” Coborn said. “He didn’t put up a fight. The Marshal Service said he was considered armed and dangerous when they had surrounded the place (the week before), but all I had to do was pull my taser.”

Crawford County deputies picked Yarbor up from the Maries County Jail.

USMS discovered Yarbor was unregistered during a compliance check in Crawford County before the incident.
