UNION — A Union motorcyclist died Monday when he was stopped in traffic, struck from behind by another motorist, and pushed into a stopped vehicle in front of him.

Eddie D. Jacobs, 62, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash reported at 12:20 p.m. Sept. 13 on Highway 47 north of Woodland Drive in Union. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Major Crash Investigation Unit, Jacobs was stopped on a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle behind a 2019 Jeep Cherokee being driven by Sherri G. Wibberg, 58, of Belle.

The reconstruction of the incident indicated Mark T. Krill, 31, Union, was
“inattentive to the roadway” and struck the rear of Jacobs’ motorcycle. The impact pushed Jacobs into the rear end of Wibberg’s Jeep. Jacobs was pronounced dead by Washington ambulance personnel at 12:41 p.m., according to the Patrol’s report.

All three drivers were traveling south at the time of the crash. Wibberg received moderate injuries and was transported by ambulance for treatment to Mercy Hospital Washington. Krill had minor injuries and went by ambulance to Mercy Washington for treatment.

Jacobs’ body was transported to the St. Louis County Morgue by the Franklin County Medical Examiner.

Jacobs was wearing a helmet. Wibberg was wearing a seat belt. Krill was not wearing a seat belt, according to the MSHP report. All three vehicles were removed from the scene by local towing firms, Patriots Towing and Sturms Towing.
