Dropping an 11-1 decision last Tuesday at Cuba, Randis Sanders’ Belle Lady Tiger softball team looked to get back in the win column Monday night at home hosting New Haven’s Lady Shamrocks.

Falling 5-2 at New Haven in their annual softball tournament back in late August, Belle was looking to avenge that loss.

Grabbing a 1-0 lead after one inning at Belle City Park Monday night, Sanders’ Lady Tigers were able to get an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning to hold on for a 2-0 victory over the visitors from New Haven.

Pitching around a one-out walk in the top of the first inning, Lady Tiger starting pitcher Emma White gave her offense a chance to take the lead in the bottom half of the first inning.

Ryleigh Long delivered a one-out double before quickly scoring on a Gracie Rehmert RBI single giving Belle an early 1-0 lead.

From there, scoring opportunities were few and far between for both the Lady Tigers and Lady Shamrocks.

White was helped in the top of the second inning by a 6-4 double play after she hit a batter.

That double play turned by Nevaeh Kinsey and Long helped keep New Haven off the scoreboard.

New Haven starting pitcher Ryan Stutzman pretty much kept Belle in check throughout the middle portion of the game.

Long reached safely in the bottom of the third inning on an error before she was left stranded on the base paths.

White had to work around a one-out single in the top of the fourth inning to keep Belle’s 1-0 lead intact at the midway point of the game.

Both pitchers did not allow a base runner in their respective halves of the fifth inning.

That changed in the bottom half of the sixth inning.

Natalie Gehlert led it off with a double before Rehmert recorded her second RBI of the game on a double that scored Gehlert doubling Belle’s lead to 2-0 entering a do-or-die top of the seventh inning for New Haven.

Able to work around a one-out single, White earned the compete-game victory allowing no runs on three hits and a walk to go with six strikeouts.

Inching back closer to the .500 mark, Belle improved to 6-7 with the victory over New Haven.

In their 11-1 loss at Cuba last Tuesday, Belle scored their lone run in the top of the third inning when Aliza Reed walked and scored on a White RBI single.

Of Belle’s five hits against Cuba, Rehmert and White had two apiece with the other coming from Tajel McDaniel.

Belle matched up with Vienna last night (Tuesday) on the road looking to spoil their senior night and another perfect run through the Gasconade Valley Conference.

Hosting St. James tomorrow (Thursday) at Belle City Park, Sanders’ Lady Tigers will compete this weekend at the Linn Invitational Softball Tournament.
