Belle High School track wins seven events during annual GVC meet

CUBA — With Vienna departed to the Show-Me Central Conference (SMCC), Belle’s Tigers and Lady Tigers were left to represent Maries County Saturday during the annual Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC) track meet held at Cuba High School’s Wildcat Field of Pride.

Racking up 147 team points, Belle’s Tigers finished third in the GVC boys team standings behind Steelville (187) and Cuba (166).

Freshman Malachi Fredendall led the Tigers winning a pair of GVC titles in both the 200-meter and 400m dashes in times of 24.02 and 53.78 respectively.

Skylar Perkins (3rd, 25.79) and Landon Storz (8th, 32.29) also made a turn for the Tigers in the boys 200m dash.

Following Fredendall for Belle in the boys 400m dash were Connor Weigel (4th, 57.80) and Braxton Ahart (7th, 1:05.96).

Miles Frey kept the GVC titles coming on the track for Belle winning the boys 800m run in 2:13.94 with fellow Tiger David Skaggs right behind him in a second-place time of 2:15.79.

Sprinting to GVC gold in the boys 4x100m relay was the Tiger foursome of Timothy Schmid, Ethan Bailey, Perkins and Ahart in a winning time of 52.03.

Belle also ended the meet with another GVC title in the boys 4x400m relay with a time of 3:45.95 from the Tiger quartet of Miles Frey, Fredendall, Weigel and Skaggs.

Tiger relay teams also posted a pair of second-place times in Cuba to earn All-GVC honors.

Starting the meet with a second-place time of 9:11.53 was the Tiger 4x800m relay team of Miles Frey, Barrett Finnegan, Fredendall and Skaggs.

Also posting a second-place time of 1:47.42 in the boys 4x200m relay was the Belle squad of Trevor Frey, Ahart, Schmid and Perkins.

Finnegan also posted a second-place time of 12:18.88 in the boys 3200m run and a third-place time of 5:32.11 in the boys 1600m run for the Tigers.

Trevor Frey (5th, 21.30) and Isaiah Spurgeon (6th, 23.28) competed for Belle in the boys 110m hurdles.

Brayden Barzee’s best throw of the meet came in the shot put with a fourth-place mark of 11.69m.

Callen Taylor (7th, 10.32m) and Brayden Gibson (9th, 8.39m) also competed in the boys shot put for Belle’s Tigers.

Weston Doss posted a pair of 10th-place marks in the boys discus (21.68m) and javelin (23.32m).

Taylor’s best finish came in the boys javelin with a sixth-place heave of 32.55m.

Kaegan Kinsey earned All-GVC honors clearing 1.52m in the boys high jump to place second.

Weigel (2nd, 5.19m), Kinsey (5th, 4.63m) and Doss (8th, 4.16m) all posted top-eight leaps in the boys long jump.

Winning two events, Belle’s Lady Tigers accumulated 95 team points to place third in the GVC high school girl’s team standings behind Cuba (203) and Steelville (162).

Breaking her own school record again, junior Aubrey Rehmert posted Belle’s lone event win of the meet easily winning the girls javelin with a first-place mark of 41.06m.

Over on the track, Belle’s Lady Tiger 4x400m relay team of Cloie Schneider, Kenadie Bailey, Ellie Gray and Zoe Camden posted a first-place time of 4:47.90.

Belle’s other three girls relay teams also placed third in their respective races.

Sprinting to a third-place time of 1:00.61 in the girls 4x100m relay was the Lady Tiger foursome of Avaya Kitchen, Chloe Jones, Gray and Rehmert.

Also taking third in the girls 4x200m relay for Belle in a time of 2:01.93 was the squad of Johanna Helmig, Rehmert, Gray and Camden.

Rounding out the Lady Tiger contingency of relay teams was the girls 4x800m relay team of Saylor Kent, Ellanor Kent, Allania Moore and Bailey with a third-place time of 12:40.92.

Rehmert (3rd, 13.96), Kitchen (5th, 14.61) and Helmig (8th, 15.08) sprinted down the track for Jacob Walton’s Lady Tigers in the girls 100m dash.

Camden (3rd, 29.19), Helmig (5th, 31.69) and Gray (7th, 33.40) each made a left turn in the girls 200m dash for Belle.

Taking a lap around the track for the Lady Tigers in the girls 400m dash were Camden (2nd, 1:06.15), Schneider (5th, 1:13.22) and Saylor Kent (9th, 1:23.23).

Bailey also placed third in the girls 800m run with a time of 2:51.49 while Tajel McDaniel posted a pair of third-place times in the girls 1600m and 3200m runs of 6:03.07 and 13:35.03 respectively.

Kennady Kinkead (4th, 18.70m) and Hayden Fann (5th, 18.47m) rounded out the top five of the girls discus for Belle.

Jones (6th, 7.85m), Kitchen (9th, 6.85m) and Kinkead (10th, 6.80m) posted top-10 throws for the Lady Tigers in the girls shot put.

Belle will now turn their attention to the upcoming Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 2, District 4 track meet this Saturday at New Bloomfield High School with field events beginning at 9:30 a.m., and running events stepping off at 10:30 a.m.
