Belle, Bland, Vienna track squads team up to win Maries-Osage Challenge

Retain the Maries-Osage Challenge flag.

That was the goal Monday at Linn High School for track teams from Bland, Belle and Vienna teaming up to represent Maries County against Linn and Chamois from Osage County in the annual Maries-Osage Challenge track meet.

Combining to rack up 621.5 points, Maries County won the meet for the third year in a row finishing ahead of Osage County who had 363.5 points.

Starting the meet on the track in the middle school girls 4x800-meter relay, Bland’s girls team of Temperance Bray, Maddy Rhoads, Ava Prater and Nolie Finnegan took first in a time of 13:36.03 followed by Vienna’s team of Larissa Magner, Sophia Neubert, Zoe Hawk and Kaitlyn Carpenter in a second-place time of 14:28.80.

In the middle school boys 4x800m relay, Bland’s team of Malachi Fredendall, Miles Frey, David Skaggs and Kehlen Struemph took first in 10:44.36 followed by Vienna’s team of Bryce Ewers, Tyler Hallahan, Dalton Timm and Ben Murray in a second-place time of 12:24.80.

Vienna’s Lady Eagles 4x800m relay team of Morgan Murphy, Madison Weeks, Jaedyn Schell and Aubrey Reeves took second to Linn in a time of 12:08.64.

Taking the high school boys 4x800m relay in 9:43.60 was the Eagle relay team of Cooper Auten, Jackson Kilmer, Duncan Wilkinson and Brayden Ewers.

Belle’s team of Barrett Finnegan, Kaegan Kinsey, Adrien Hoehne and Ethan Bailey took third in 12:07.82.

Maries County swept the middle school girls 100m hurdles led by Vienna’s Lainey Magner (18.70) in addition to Vienna’s Kaylee Bresnahan (21.41), Bland’s Ava Prater (22.50), Vienna’s Rebecca Miller (24.48), Bland’s Zoey Marsee (24.92) and Bland’s Allania Moore (28.77).

Timm (Vienna) led Maries County in the middle school boys 100m hurdles with a second-place time of 21.50.

Bland’s duo of Jack Martin (4th, 22.84) and Trevor Frey (5th, 27.96) rounded out the top five in the event.

Madeleine Novak (Vienna) placed third in the high school girls 100m hurdles in 20.63.

Belle’s Brandon Gromowski placed third in the high school boys 110m hurdles with a time of 21.59.

Vienna’s Arda Baz (4th, 22.08) and Belle’s Timothy Schmid (5th, 24.21) rounded out the top five in the event.

Lainey Magner (Vienna) sprinted to first place in the MS girls 100m dash in a time of 13.97.

Maries County runners also in the top eight included Bland’s Piper Marsee (3rd, 14.65), Bland’s Natalie Lansford (4th, 14.79) and Bland’s Lorraine Smith (8th, 16.14).

Fredendall led Bland’s Bears in the MS boys 100m dash with a second-place time of 13.45 followed closely in third place by Bear teammate Weston Doss in 13.97.

County runners also in the top nine of the event were Vienna’s Ethan LeStarge (4th, 14.55), Bland’s Lathan Miller (6th, 15.64), Bland’s Jack Martin (7th, 16.44) and Vienna’s Noah James (9th, 19.00).

Vienna’s duo of Andrea Novak (1st, 13.91) and Tori Schulte (2nd, 14.02) took the top two spots in the HS girls 100m dash.

Belle’s Madisun Bailey also placed sixth in 15.77.

Lukas Smith led Belle and Maries County in the HS boys 100m dash with a third-place time of 12.77.

Vienna’s trio of Zach Via (4th, 13.05), Gavin Schwartze (6th, 13.05) and Matthew Hamill (7th, 13.72) placed in the top seven of the boys 100m dash.

VMS’ girls 4x200m relay team of Aspyn Gorman, Delaney Schwartze, Ava Smith and Ella Hollis placed third in the event with a time of 2:14.59.

Taking second in the MS boys 4x200m relay was the Vienna team of Jordan Hatfield, Zac Kleffner, Zeb Wiles and Bryce Ewers in a time of 2:07.38.

Finishing right behind in a third-place time of 2:17.21 was Bland’s team of Trevor Frey, Chaz Gromowski, Jack Martin and Connor LeRoux.

Just missing the two-minute mark in the HS girls 4x200m relay was Vienna’s second-place team of Andrea Novak, Schulte, Schell and Reeves in a time of 2:01.48.

Belle’s quartet of Madisun Bailey, Olivia Koch, Tajel McDaniel and Hali Naber took third in 2:07.22.

Equaling their Lady Eagle counterparts, the Vienna boys 4x200m relay team of Eli Hays, Gabe Kleffner, Baz and Via also placed second in a time of 1:47.00.

Placing fourth in 2:00.26 was Belle’s team of Brandon Gromowski, Bailey, Kinsey and Schmid.

Bland’s Nolie Finnegan won the MS girls 1600m run in 6:13.08.

County teammates behind her included Bland’s Zoey Marsee (2nd), Bland’s Temperance Bray (4th) and Vienna’s Sophia Neubert (5th).

Making it a sweep of the MS 1600m races, Bland’s Brice Robertson topped the boys field in a time of 5:52.53.

Other county athletes behind Robertson included Bland’s Miles Frey (3rd), Bland’s Coltin Hazelwood (4th), Bland’s Karsin Siefert (6th), Vienna’s Tyler Hallahan (7th), Vienna’s Dalton Timm (8th), Vienna’s Blakely Crandle (9th) and Vienna’s Ben Murray (10th).

McDaniel won the HS girls 1600m run for Belle in a time of 6:30.91.

Wilkinson made it a county sweep of the HS mile races winning the boys 1600m run for Vienna in 5:19.15.

County runners also in the top five of the HS boys 1600m run were Vienna’s Brayden Ewers (2nd), Vienna’s Thomas Douglas (4th) and Belle’s Adrien Hoehne (5th).

Sprinting to second place in the MS girls 4x100m relay was Vienna’s team of Ava Smith, Gorman, Miller and Schwartze in a time of 1:05.46.

Bland’s team of Ava Prater, Kaylee Hazelwood, Kyrie Rhoads and Lorraine Smith took third in 1:08.25.

Vienna’s MS boys team of Zac Kleffner, Greyson Summerford, Hatfield and Wiles were also second in the boys 4x100m relay in 1:02.22.

Seconds behind them in a third-place time of 1:05.03 was the Bland team of Trevor Frey, LeRoux, Martin and Siefert.

Taking first in the HS girls 4x100m relay was Belle’s squad of Aubrey Rehmert, Bailey, Koch and Naber in a time of 59.55.

Vienna’s foursome of Madeleine Novak, Riley Rosentreter, Morgan Murphy and Evelyn Rollins placed third in 1:10.47.

Taking second in the HS boys 4x100m relay was Belle’s Tiger team of Ethan Bailey, Butler, Valley and Lukas Smith in 52.63.

Vienna’s team of Eli Crum, Timothy Shockley, Matthew Hamill and Wyatt Camden took third in 58.74.

Lansford won the MS girls 400m dash for Bland in 1:14.13 with teammates Ellie Gray (2nd) and Maddy Rhoads (4th) also in the top four.

Riley McKinnon was fifth for Vienna.

Kevin Russell won the MS boys 400m dash for Vienna in 59.30.

Fredendall (2nd), Robertson (4th), LeStarge (7th), Vienna’s Talan Reeves (8th) and Zac Kleffner (9th) also finished in the top nine for Maries County.
