Belle aldermen on Thursday voted 2-0-1 to donate the use of the Green Building at Belle City Park on Saturday, June 12 for the Belle Community Betterment Association (BCBA) to offer to visitors during the Swap Meet, Extravaganza and Car Show event.
Alderman Ken Stanfield is a member of BCBA — a group that uses all proceeds from fundraisers to help improve the community — and began discussion by informing the board that he and his wife were personally interested in renting the buildings for visitors to use if they get too hot.
“Let’s donate it,” said Mayor Pro-tem Jeanette Struemph. “Anymore, I get too hot too and may have to use it myself.”
Stanfield said he appreciated the gesture, but he and wife Kathy didn’t mind paying for the building or at least paying the cleaning fee if it is used. Struemph said she didn’t mind paying the clean fee as a donation to the association that gives so much to the community.
“But would we donate the use of the building to everyone?” Stanfield asked.
The board agreed that BCBA is a non-profit organization where all profit made on the event is being given back to the community. Another group with the same circumstances has never asked for the donation. It would always go on a case-by-case basis.
“They’ve got the park reserved for the whole day anyway,” Alderman Josh Seaver said. “We can’t rent it out.”
Stanfield and Alderman Sundi Jo Graham, both members of the BCBA, abstained from the vote. Seaver and Struemph both voted to approve the donation of the use of the Green Building to the BCBA
