Mr. Barry Steven Nelson, 64, Jefferson City, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2022.

He was born December 14, 1957, a son of the late Avery and Irene Breeden Nelson in Vienna.

He was a 1975 graduate of Vienna High School.

Barry was a lifelong carpenter, working on many projects throughout Central Missouri during his career. He loved learning about the world by reading books from the library and watching PBS. He cared about and helped the downtrodden, volunteering his time and expertise to Habitat for Humanity. He loved listening to music and playing vinyl records, often visiting the local record shop with his son Andy. He was goofy and fun, always telling jokes, making puns, and rhyming. He held a deep appreciation and love for nature, conservation, and the Ozarks. He spent many days boating on the Gasconade River, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, or simply tending to his lawn, leaves, and trees. He is greatly missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by parents Avery and Irene; brothers-in-law Arnold Brown and Richard Salmons; and niece Jessica Stauffer.

Barry is survived by son Andy Nelson and wife Kaley of Ft. Collins, Colo.; brother Mike Nelson and wife Cheri of Vienna; sisters Donna Brown of Kansas City, Carol Lewter and husband Dallas of Edmond, Okla., and Peggy Salmons of Jefferson City; nephews Matt Nelson and Ben Nelson; and nieces Sarah Garraoui and Rachel Salmons.

A memorial service for Barry will be held at a later date.
