Now that life in Missouri is back to normal, I have so enjoyed being able to get out in the district and interact with constituents again in recent months. Getting your direct feedback and being able to hear your concerns and opinions without having to log onto Zoom or Teams (or whatever the newest technology) is so valuable and helps me serve you and your families that much better. Over the last couple weeks, I have been out and about visiting with constituents and local businesses to check in. Here are just a few:
One of my first stops was at Seyer Industries, a third-generation, family-run small business in St. Peters that specializes in aerospace manufacturing. The company was started in a garage in 1957 and continues to evolve and compete in the aerospace industry while still maintaining the family-like culture that we know and love with a small business. It was great getting to see the incredible ingenuity and cutting-edge technology coming out of this Third District business, as well as getting to meet some of the wonderful Missourians who work there.
I was also able to check in on the progress we’re making with the Rock Island Trail. As the former Director of Tourism for our state, I am always supportive of attractions that will bring tourists to Missouri to learn about our history, allow them to see some of our great towns that might be otherwise off the beaten path, and of course help the local economy. The Rock Island Trail will follow the old railroad and bring foot traffic and visitors to much of the Third District, bringing more business to our communities and allowing people to see all the beauty we have to offer.
While I wasn’t there in my capacity as a member of Congress, perhaps my favorite trip over the last week was cheering on the St. Elizabeth boys baseball team at the Class 1 State Baseball Championship. While Oran ultimately came away with the win, it was great watching our hometown team compete in my favorite sport. Congratulations to Oran High School which is down near the bootheel. They, like St. Elizabeth, have some great ball players and fine young men on their team. As a St. Elizabeth alumnus and father of three children who played on the school’s baseball and softball teams, these programs have a special place in my heart. The softball and baseball programs were actually inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame a few weeks ago, recognizing the hard work of the coaches, players and their families over the years. I’m so proud of these programs and look forward to watching many more games next season.
The Third District of Missouri is truly my favorite place on earth and being out and about with you and your families and hearing about what is and is not working in our district is the most rewarding part of my job. It is so refreshing to be back out there with all of you, and I look forward to seeing many more faces soon.
