With Labor Day behind us, we know we’re not too far from this fall’s mid-term elections.
We could focus on a lot of issues that have been raised in the past two years and will be re-argued over and over in the next two months. But let’s look at just one issue: Are you safer now, under Joe Biden, than you were two years ago with Donald Trump in the White House?
Are you safer from the criminal element? Here in Osage County, we’ve got good law enforcement and law enforcement has the support of the people. That combines to make us relatively safe, but we’re not as safe as we were two years ago. Law enforcement is having a very difficult time recruiting and maintaining officers. From our local departments, through the highway patrol and continuing through to the federal level, morale has never been worse. How safe will you be when honorable men and women do not consider law enforcement careers? That time is on us.
Half a century ago FBI agents had to have a law degree or be a CPA to get hired. There was a waiting list to get in. When I graduated from Mizzou law school in 1966, many of my classmates were headed to the FBI. The FBI has been corrupted and ultimately wrecked by the Democratic Party. The FBI no longer focuses on crime. It focuses on protecting Democrats and attacking Republicans. And did I say, the FBI has dropped its standards. Imagine that.
No one can say the FBI’s handling of the Hunter Biden laptop is anything but a national disgrace.
Are your kids safer? Are you concerned about the availability of drugs? Are you concerned about the Mexican drug cartels’ influence on our country’s politics? The drugs flowing into the country across our southern border is a disgrace on the order of the Hunter Biden laptop.
More than 20 years ago when I was drug court judge, we knew who the enemy was. At that time, we never dreamed that 20 years down the road our main enemy would be the president of the United States and his government.
Do you thank our government is prepared to defend us from the enemies of our country? Joe Biden’s oil policies have crippled us, while making our enemies much stronger. Putin would not have had the money to wage war on Ukraine, except that Biden made Russia’s oil triple in value. Biden has given Ukrainians the weapons they needed to help fight off Putin. The problem is that in doing so we have depleted our own arsenal of weapons. And all of this – including the suffering inflicted on the people of Ukraine – was avoidable.
Before Biden ran up the price of oil, Venezuela was unable to pay its bills and was teetering on the brink of insolvency. Today Venezuela is prosperous and in a position to cause us all kinds of problems with our neighboring countries to the south.
Many of our major cities have become hell holes. We hear about crime in New York and Chicago, but New Orleans doesn’t get the news coverage that the bigger cities receive. That changed this past Thursday when the mayor of New Orleans stated her city may have to cancel Mardi Gras because their police department couldn’t guarantee the safety of the crowds. The next day the mayor backed down and said the city would hold Mardi Gras, but she had already made her point. The New Orleans police department has already been so weakened it cannot guarantee the safety of those taking part in Mardi Gras. How safe are people on a regular night in the French Quarter? Makes you wonder, doesn’t it?
“Defund the Police,” many Democrats and many rioters chanted. While some police departments have technically been defunded by virtue of having their funds cut, others have been virtually defunded by the loss of morale and the consequent loss of officers. The reality is the same.
Joe Biden says police should not be defunded, but he lets his fellow Democrats keep whacking the police in every way possible.
Of all the safety issues, none is more cause for alarm than nuclear weapons. Putin having nuclear weapons and frequently threatening to use them should make all of us fearful. The same with China. From the perspective of the nuclear threat, are we safer under Biden than Trump? It is much more appropriate for Biden to be in a nursing home than the White House. But nothing about Biden and the Democrats is more scary than their rush to give nuclear weapons to Iran. Trump put the kibosh to Obama’s plan to allow Iran to have nuclear weapons. But now, Biden is hoping to bring about what Trump prevented. We were clearly safer under Trump.
