Aldermen seek needed updates on STARS report, city purchases

BELLE — Marshal Joe Turnbough responded to an inquiry by Alderman Sundi Jo Graham on Nov. 10 for a STARS report update, since the board had been informed during the Oct. 19 meeting that the Belle Police Department was not up-to-date on their submissions.

“How is the STARS report coming?” Graham asked.

The city of Belle received a letter from the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) last month stating the Belle Police Department had not submitted any of their crash reports for 2019.

“I pulled up our press report to see how many we had,” Turnbough said, adding that he submitted that information to MSHP.

Graham asked if there was anything else the city needed to do, and Turnbough said no. Graham asked for a copy of what he submitted, and Turnbough agreed. Turnbough had also requested last month to have their Crime Star program membership reinstated.

“We have your Crime Star up and running,” Mayor Steve Vogt said.

Turnbough expressed his appreciation, as Graham looked over the previous equipment purchase approvals and asked Turnbough if he had followed through. She asked Turnbough if he ordered the body cameras that the board approved Oct. 19 for purchase.

“I’ve not ordered that,” Turnbough said. “I don’t have a credit card or anything, but there is two ways that I can do it. I can try to get a hold of Scott (John, Maries County Sheriff’s Deputy) this week and he can order it for me and we can reimburse him. Or I can try to bring the address to Frankie (Hicks, city clerk) or Steve (Vogt, mayor). It’s already been approved. Then Steve could use his credit card or Frankie can use hers.”

No action was taken on the updates.
