Belle mayor introduces new alderman

Belle Mayor Josh Seaver planned to appoint Daryl White Jr. to the Belle Board of Aldermen as a Ward 2 representative on Tuesday night to fill the seat recently vacated by Ken Stanfield at the April 12 meeting.

Seaver said White expressed an interest in serving on the board until 2023 when a candidate may be elected.

“He has the experience and desire to see our community grow that I believe we need at this time,” Seaver said about the May 10 nomination.

Stanfield unexpectedly resigned during the April meeting. He made the announcement that, due to personal and health reasons, he needed to step down from the position of alderman. Stanfield was the only board member who was not on the April 2022 ballot.

Then in late April, another alderman announced her intentions to move out of the city limits in June to be closer to relatives.

“As to the seat Sundi Jo (Graham) will be vacating, I haven’t made a decision yet, but am actively seeking someone to fill that seat.”

Graham, a Ward 2 alderman as well, ran unopposed in the April 2022 elections and was sworn back onto the board last month.

Belle aldermen hosts their meeting on the second Tuesday of each month. The Advocate had already gone to print at the time of the meeting and obtained information regarding the appointment in advance.
