Lady Bears sweep Highway 28 volleyball showdown against Dixon

Swept by Cuba last Thursday opening a three-match home stand last week at Bland Middle School (BMS), Kaci Jones’ BMS Lady Bear volleyball teams looked to finish the home stand with wins against Dixon last Thursday and Hermann Monday night.

Welcoming Hermann to town for a quasi-Gasconade County showdown Monday night, Bland dropped the ‘B’ team match in two sets 25-7 and 25-20 while their ‘A’ team counterparts also fell in two sets 25-9 and 25-20.

Kaylee Hazelwood had two aces for Bland in game one of the ‘B’ team match while Brooklyn Hurst led the Lady Bears with two aces in game two.

Cali Maxey and Allania Moore also recorded aces for the Lady Bears.

During the ‘A’ team match against Hermann, Maddy Rhoads had two service points in game one while Jenna Heidbreder served the lone ace for Bland in game two.

Opening the March portion of their season Friday night against Dixon, Bland took the ‘B’ team match in two sets 25-17 and 25-7 in addition to sweeping the ‘A’ team match by scores of 25-11 and 25-15.

Ava Prater served five aces to go along with three aces from Maxey in game one of the ‘B’ team match for Bland.

Hazelwood racked up 13 consecutive service points to start game two with 11 of them being aces.

Katie Williams also served a pair of points for the Lady Bears.

Chloe Jones served 11 points in a row in game one for Bland in the ‘A’ team match with a pair of aces.

Kennady Kinkead added three aces in game two for Bland while a Zoe Camden ace ended the match.

Last Thursday against Cuba, Bland dropped the ‘B’ team match in two sets 25-11 and 25-18 while the ‘A’ team also fell in two sets against Cuba 25-21 and 25-18.

Hazelwood had an ace to go with two service points from Hurst in game one of the ‘B’ team match for Bland.

Recording two aces in game two, Hazelwood finished the match with three aces.

During the ‘A’ team match, Hayden Fann served up two aces out of five service points for Bland.

Fann and Camden each served an ace in game two.

After hosting Viburnum tomorrow (Thursday) night, Bland’s ‘B’ team will compete Saturday at Bourbon’s ‘B’ Team Tournament beginning with round-robin competition against Cuba at 8:30 a.m.

Bland will then face Bourbon at 12:15 p.m., before taking on Steelville at 1 p.m.

They will conclude pool play at 3:15 p.m., against St. James and play for the championship at 4 p.m., if they are one of the top two teams in the tournament after round-robin matches are completed.
