Vienna tames Crocker

Ending the January portion of their schedule last Tuesday night at home, Mike Beeman’s Vienna Eagles welcomed Crocker’s Lions to Maries County.

Ending the first quarter with a slim 17-14 lead, Vienna outscored Crocker 64-47 the rest of the way to post an 81-61 victory over the visiting Lions.

“We played pretty well tonight against a very good Crocker team,” Beeman said. “Our defense was strong tonight and we did a nice job on the boards.”

Coming into the game 48 points shy of 2,000 for his outstanding Vienna High School basketball career, senior guard Isaac Weider torched the nets for 36 points along with four rebounds, two steals and an assist.

Scheduled to host Cuba last night (Tuesday), Vienna will now host the Wildcats tomorrow night (Thursday) starting with the junior varsity game at 5:30 p.m., with varsity action to follow. Weider will enter the game just 12 points from 2,000 for his career.

Weider had two teammates join him in double figures against Crocker.

Kyle Helton added 11 points, five rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot. Logan Agan added a double double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. Agan also drew a pair of charges making him the season and career record holder at Vienna in drawn charges.

Zach Schwartze nearly joined the double double party with seven points, 11 rebounds and a blocked shot.. Tyler Roberds posted a solid stat line of six points, five rebounds, four assists ad a steal.

Luke McEnnis dished out a team-high five assists to go along with his six points, two rebounds, a steal and a blocked shot.

With the win over the visiting Lions, Vienna improved their overall record on the season to 15-6.

After their make-up game with Cuba tomorrow night (Thursday), Vienna will have two more GVC contests during the upcoming week.

They will host Bourbon’s Warhawks on Friday, Feb. 9 at 5:30 p.m., before making the trek to Belle High School with Maries County hardwood bragging rights on the line on Tuesday, Feb. 13 against the host Tigers starting at 5:30 p.m., with junior varsity action.
