Sylvester Joseph Koerber, 95, Argyle, passed away Friday, March 22, 2019, at Maries Manor, Vienna.

He was born Feb. 13, 1924, to George G. and Louise L. (Luecke) Koerber, in Maries County.

Sylvester served in the U.S. Army. He was a lifetime parishioner of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Vienna. He was a member of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Post 8045, the Knights of Columbus Council 2047, both in Argyle, and the Knights of Columbus Council 13178 in Vienna. Sylvester and brother Lawrence were major benefactors in the construction of the Knights of Columbus Council 13178 building which is known as Koerber Hall. He was a lifelong livestock and crop farmer on the family farm, a Missouri Century Farm, located in Maries County along the Big Maries between Vienna and Argyle, prior to his retirement.

He was preceded in death by parents, George and Louise; brothers, Victor, Cornelius and Lawrence Koerber; and sisters, Mary Ann Kissel, Viola Ryan, Theresa Valentine and Virginia McCormick.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 5, from 6-8 p.m., with a prayer service led by Deacon Doug Hemke at 6 p.m. and a rosary service led by the Knights of Columbus at 7:30 p.m., all in the Vienna Chapel of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home. Visitation will also be held Saturday, April 6, from 9-10 a.m. in the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church followed by a Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Matthew Flatley as Celebrant. Interment with full military honors will be in the Visitation Cemetery, Vienna. Memorial contributions suggested to the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Inter-Parish School or Visitation Cemetery.
