Senior Center board views VHS media submission to Shelter Insurance contest

VIENNA — Three Vienna High School seniors were at the Vienna Senior Center Thursday morning to show the senior center board members the video they made and entered into a contest that can end up with a $5,000 grant for the senior center.

Trace Clark, Nathan Hollis and Caid Stockstill presented their five-minutes video that is an entry into the Shelter Insurance “Thankful for Our Communities” essay/video contest.

Maries R-1 Librarian and media teacher Kristy Helton, said she is proud of the students who put together the video and she complimented their community minded spirit. Helton was approached by Vienna Shelter Insurance Agent Courtney Jeremy about the contest and how the senior center could use the additional money if they won the contest.

Helton assisted in writing a short script for the video promoting Vienna and the students took it from there. It took a couple of weeks to do all of the video shooting work, taking photos and the editing of the video. On Thursday when the senior center board members were shown the video, they were very pleased.

Now, it is up to the community to go to the www.ShelterInsurance.com/Thankful site and vote. Click on the enter or vote button and scroll down until seeing Nathan Hollis’s name and vote. You have to enter your name and email address.

Unlike in previous years, you can only vote once from one email address so it is very important to share this information so that other family members and friends will vote, too.

Votes will be accepted until noon on May 13. Last week, the Vienna entry was in third place. According to the contest rules, the entry that earns the most votes overall will automatically be a winner.

The next nine entries that receive the most votes will be submitted to a panel of judges, who will choose four more recipients to receive $5,000 for their charity.

Other media students involved with the video include Jordyn Steffen, Cheyenne Murdie, Allie Zimmer, Rachel Garro and Kendra Iven.
