Suffering a tough 40-32 loss to Iberia’s Lady Rangers back on Friday, Dec. 14, Jason Kampeter’s Vienna Lady Eagle basketball team looked to snap a three-game losing streak and close 2018 with a victory on Monday, Dec. 17 in Cole County against Russellville’s Lady Indians.

Down 22-16 after a high-scoring first quarter, Vienna simply couldn’t answer Russellville’s offensive output the rest of the game before falling 85-62 to the Lady Indians.

Leading three Lady Eagles in double figures was Kendra Iven with a game-high 19 points that included five makes from 3-point land.

Kamryn Hayes was next in double figures scoring nine of her 16 points in the second half.

Kadence George rounded out the trio of Lady Eagles in double digits netting eight of her 12 points in the third quarter.

Jena Schwartze added six points to go along with three points apiece from Marsie Messersmith and Rachel Garro.

Karissa Feeler (2) and Renee Logan (1) rounded out Vienna’s scoring against the host Lady Indians.

Entering 2019 with a 3-7 overall record, Vienna will resume their season competing in the Calvary Lutheran Girls Basketball Tournament in Jefferson City.

Drawing St. Paul Lutheran out of Farmington, the Lady Eagles will look to put a four-game losing streak behind them Friday night at 6 p.m., at Trinity Lutheran School.

After tournament action this weekend, Vienna will stay on the road to take on St. Elizabeth’s Lady Hornets Tuesday, Jan. 8 starting at 6 p.m.

Their Eagle counterparts will start 2019 next week in the South Callaway Boys Basketball Tournament up in Mokane.
