Hosting New Haven’s Shamrocks last Tuesday night to open their season on the hardwood, Tim Evans’ Belle Tiger basketball squads looked to take advantage of the home cooking at Belle High School.

Either tied or within a point of the Shamrocks after three quarters, Belle allowed New Haven to put 25 on the board in the final eight minutes before falling 58-42 to the visitors from Franklin County out of the Four Rivers Conference.

Trailing 10-9 after one quarter from BHS, the Tigers were paced by Brett (5) and Mason Butler (4) who combined for all of Belle’s points in the first eight minutes.

Edging New Haven 10-9 in the second quarter, Belle went into halftime tied at 19-19 with the visiting Shamrocks.

Jat Ridenhour led the Tigers with five second-quarter points followed by three from Colten Robinson and two more from Mason Butler.

Edged 14-13 to start the second half, the host Tigers trailed New Haven 33-32 after three quarters of closely-played basketball in Maries County.

Unable to cool off the Shamrocks in the fourth quarter, Belle started their season with a notch in the loss column.

Adding eight points to his total in the third quarter, Brett Butler paced Belle’s offense with a team-high 13 points. Mason Butler followed closely behind also in double figures with 12 points.

Ridenhour added seven points to go along with five markers each from Eddy Paz and Robinson.

On the glass, both Butlers along with Ridenhour all pulled down four rebounds apiece.

Other Tigers on the BHS boy’s basketball roster include Levi Fortner, Carter Dunn, Peyton Moran, Quinton Martin, Daniel Bolte and Brett Stewart.

Prior to varsity action, both the Belle junior varsity Tigers and New Haven JV Shamrocks faced off last Tuesday night on the BHS hardwood.

Trailing 26-13 at halftime, Belle could only muster 11 second-half points before falling to the visiting JV Shamrocks 57-24.

Adding to his success running cross country during the fall, Belle foreign-exchange student Jorge Uribe netted a team-high 11 points for the Tiger offense.

Brandon Ostertag added five points all in the first half to go along with three each from Caden Roberds and Thomas Lingo.

Colten Roberds rounded out the scoring for the JV Tigers with two points in the first quarter.

Monday night at BHS, Belle’s freshman Tigers opened their season hosting St. James’ Tigers.

Trailing 8-7 after one quarter, Belle got three points from Shane Baumgartner along with two each from Caden Roberds and Justin Lingo.

Outscoring St. James 12-9 in the second seven minutes, Belle went into halftime nursing a 19-17 lead.
