OWENSVILLE — Fresh off three wins in three days last week, Tyler Shalbot’s Vienna Eagle baseball team looked to make it a four-game winning streak Monday afternoon on the road against the host Owensville Dutchmen.

Plating nine runs on six hits, two errors, a walk and a hit batter, Vienna had all the offense they needed before even taking the field on defense in their 13-5 road victory in Gasconade County.

“Every guy one through nine in our lineup hit the ball hard and everywhere,” Shalbot said. “Our offense has been iffy here of late and hopefully it will continue to get better as we get closer to districts.”

In Vienna’s nine-run first inning, Dylan Buschmann led things off reaching on an error before scoring on a McCrae Fuller RBI single getting the Eagles on the board.

Later in the inning, McCrae Fuller and Trenton Rowden recorded RBI singles before Spencer Wieberg delivered the a big blow with a two-RBI double scoring Timmy Schwartze and Rowden. Logan Agan capped the inning with a RBI triple before scoring an error for Vienna’s ninth run.

Sutton Hauck surrendered four runs in the bottom of the first inning before Agan came on to get the final two outs ending Owensville’s scoring barrage.

Leading 9-4 after two innings, Vienna got those four runs back in the top of the third inning.

Nathan Kleffner and Brenden Crowe were both hit by pitches to start inning.

Buschmann singled to load the bases full of Eagles for Agan.

Grinding out an eight pitch at-bat, Agan doubled to left field driving in Kleffner and Crowe pushing the VHS lead to 11-4.

Fuller added to his RBI single in the first inning with a two-RBI single in the top of the third allowing Buschmann and Agan to score giving Vienna a 13-4 lead over Owensville moving to the bottom of the third inning.

Limiting the Dutchmen to one more run in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Eagles ran their winning streak to four games.

Playing their third game in three days last Wednesday, the Eagles ventured into Crawford County for a Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC) showdown with Steelville’s Cardinals.

Trailing 5-1 entering a do-or-die top of the seventh inning, Shalbot’s Eagles strung together eight runs on five hits, two walks and two hit batters to score a 9-5 come-from-behind victory.

“We nearly gave that one away,” Shalbot said. “I’m proud of our guys for battling back even when we trailed most of the game.”

Scoreless through two innings, Vienna took a 1-0 lead when Buschmann scored on a Gavin Stricklan RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the third inning.

Steelville answered with a run in the bottom half of the third inning to tie the game until the bottom of the fifth when the Cardinals tacked on four runs on three hits.
