Artty Wayne Spencer, 67, Vienna, passed away Monday, July 22, 2019, after suffering an apparent heart attack at his residence.

He was born June 5, 1952, to Wallace Delmar and Mary Louise (Yates) Spencer, at Doniphan, in Ripley County.

He was united in marriage to Mary Kay (Crider) Thompson, Feb. 22, 2008, at Vienna.

Artty attended Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Doolittle, and Celebration Church, Rolla. He was a member of Argyle Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8045 and Paul A. Hasenbeck Memorial American Legion Post 317 in Freeburg. Artty served in the U.S. Navy for over 20 years and was trained as an ASROC Missle Assemblyman and an advance Undersea MK46 Maintenance Weaponsman. He was awarded and entitled to wear the Fourth Good Conduct Award, the Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd Award), the National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (4th Award), the LOC, the Navy Expeditionary Medal, the Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal, the .45 Cal (Sharpshooter) Badge, the M-14 Rifle (Expert) Badge, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Medal.

He was preceded in death by parents, Wallace and Mary; and two infant siblings.

He is survived by wife, Mary of the home; daughters, Concetta “Connie” Spencer of Orlando, Fla., and Jessica Wenzel and husband Ronny of Winter Springs, Fla.; step-children, Shannon Thompson and Dana and Lana Germann and husband Dan, all of Vienna; brother, Leslie Spencer and wife Shirley of Rolla and Allen “Chuck” Spencer of Eureka; and two granddaughters and six step-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 27, at Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna, with Pastor Russell Summers, Celebration Church, Rolla, officiating. Interment with full military honors was in Little Flock Cemetery, near Vienna. Memorial contributions suggested to Little Flock Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund.
