Adair runs from deputies, is brought down by K-9

David Adair, 44, of Highway 72, Rolla, led deputies with the Maries County Sheriff’s Office on another chase in the woods on Friday night, which resulted in the same way the past chases have ended—he was caught.

Maries County Sheriff Chris Heitman reported that Deputy Corporal Bret Turnbough with K-9 dog, Rico, and Deputy Caleb Cooper were led on a short, fast pursuit by Adair at his residence along Highway 63, south of Vichy and across the road from the new Dollar General store. Heitman called Adair’s decision to run “a poor decision” as there was no way he could outrun the K-9 dog and the deputies. Adair was also bitten by the dog. Sheriff Heitman said Adair was warned they would release the dog and he could be bitten and he ran anyway. The dog bit Adair on the arm, but because he had on several layers of clothing, he was only scratched. Adair was brought down by the dog who held onto him with its bite on this leg until the deputies got there. He refused medical treatment.

Heitman said Adair was recently released form prison and now he is in trouble again, wanted for felony resisting arrest from Maries County and is wanted in Gasconade County also.

Adair is known to resist arrest and is a career criminal with 25 felony arrests and eight felony convictions, 26 misdemeanor arrests and nine misdemeanor convictions. Adair also was in possession of a suspected controlled substance.

Adair is being held in the Maries County jail on his current warrants. The sheriff’s office is requesting additional felony charges for resisting arrest and possibly additional drug charges.

“I am proud that my deputies were able to get this felon off the streets again, and I commend them for their dedication keeping Maries County safe,” the sheriff said. He added that it is his advice to not resist arrest.
