Knocking off Eugene last Tuesday on the home field at Vienna City Park by a score of 7-4, Tyler Shalbot’s Vienna Fall baseball Eagles eventually ran into them again over the weekend in the AA Baseball Tournament hosted by Eugene and Russellville.

Defeating Russellville’s JV Indians 16-1 in the first round and Eugene 6-3 in the semi’s, Vienna took on St. Elizabeth’s Hornets in the championship game.

Making a pair of first-inning runs stand up, the Eagles got five and one-third innings of solid pitching from Logan Agan to sting the Hornets by a final score of 2-1.

Limited to four hits by St. Elizabeth, Vienna got two from Gavin Stricklan who also accounted for both runs batted in (RBI).

Agan walked, scored and had a hit to help his cause while Nathan Kleffner also had a base hit for the Eagles.

Before facing the Hornets in the title game, Vienna had to get by Eugene’s Eagles in the AA Tournament semifinals.

Trailing 3-0 after one inning, Vienna plated two in the bottom of the second inning before putting up four more in the bottom of the fifth to record their second win over Eugene in a four-day span.

All nine batters in Vienna’s line up had at least one hit against Eugene’s Eagles.

Levi Messersmith and Spencer Wieberg had two hits for Vienna against Eugene while Sutton Hauck, McCrae Fuller, Dylan Buschmann, Zach Schwartze, Agan, Stricklan and Kleffner each had one hit.

Fuller pitched all seven innings against Eugene earning the complete-game victory

Vienna also shut out Bourbon (14-0) Monday and Newburg (15-0) last night (Tuesday)
