NEW HAVEN — Between the Belle and Vienna High School track teams, a total of 28 athletes in numerous events advanced to this weekend’s MSHSAA Class 1 and 2 Sectional Track Meet at South Callaway High School in Mokane.

In the Class 2, District 4 track meet at New Haven High School, Belle’s Tigers and Lady Tigers qualified nine athletes in 10 events.

Sophomore Gracie Schultz led the way winning a pair of district titles in the long jump and triple jump with distances of 15 feet, two inches and 33-06 respectively.

She also sprinted her way to sectional berths in the 100-meter dash with a second-place time of 13.51 to go with a third-place time of 28.24 in the 200-meter dash.

Kierra Finn grabbed the final qualifying spot for sectionals in the girl’s 100-meter hurdles with a fourth-place time of 19.70. She nearly made it out in the 300m hurdles placing sixth in 55.43 finishing nine-hundredths of a second shy of fourth place.

Competing as the lone relay team for Belle’s Lady Tigers, the 4x800-meter relay team of Brittany White, Faith Langdon, Susie Moman and Finn advanced to sectionals with a fourth-place time of 12:39.55.

Along with her leg of the 4x800m relay, Moman added a pair of district titles to her list of accomplishments Saturday in New Haven.

Having the event won on her second throw, Moman nearly broke triple digits in the discus with a winning throw of 99-08.

Earlier in the day during the javelin, Moman broke her own school record with a district-title winning throw of 101-02.

Winning four district titles help Jacob Walton’s Lady Tigers place fourth in the team standings with 71 points behind Steelville (174), Licking (118) and New Haven (112).

For the Belle boys, Will Doss and a pair of relay teams will join their Lady Tiger counterparts Saturday at South Callaway.

Doss punched his individual ticket to sectionals with a third-place time of 19.41 in the boy’s 110-meter hurdles.

Posting fourth place times of 1:44.54 in the 4x200m relay and 4:02.36 in the 4x400m relay, the Tiger quartet of Jorge Uribes, Josiah Hance, Aiden Craigmiles and Doss raced their way to sectionals.

Craigmiles missed the finals of the boys 200m dash by less than a second with a 10th-place time of 26.72.

Uribes came within a second of qualifying individually for sectionals in the boys 400m dash placing fifth in 58.93.

Racing against a fast field in the boys mile, Hance placed 14th in a time of 6:15.08.

Looking to bounce back from going out in the opening height of  the boys high jump, freshman Shane Baumgartner posted a seventh-place time of 52.62 in the 300m hurdles.

Also placing eighth in the boys 4x800m relay at New Haven was the Tiger quartet of Brayden Tipton, Uribes, Hance and Baumgartner.

In the boys triple jump at New Haven, Baumgartner qualified for the finals but placed ninth with a distance of 31-02. Tipton just missed the top 10 in the event with an 11th-place mark of 28-07.5.

Belle’s boys placed seventh in the team standings at New Haven with 26 points.

Down at Cuba High School, David Martin’s Vienna track and field team hosted the Class 1, District 4 track meet.

Scoring points in all but one event, the Vienna Eagle boys topped 13 other schools with 136 points capturing a district title.

Three Eagle individuals and a boy’s relay team helped Vienna’s team point total by winning district titles in their respective events.

Sophomore Nathan Kleffner won the triple jump with a distance of 38-06.75 to go along with his third-place leap of 17-03.25 in the long jump. Layne Hogshooter will join Kleffner in their sectional meet Saturday at Carl Junction High School after his fourth-place mark of 17-02.50 in the long jump.

Continuing his quest to defend his state title in the discus from last year, Eagle junior Gavin Weathers claimed a district title winning the event with a throw of 142-11. He also placed second in the shot put with a mark of 45-00.

Eagle sophomore hurdler Mike Andrews won a district title in the 300m hurdles in a time of 45.52. Earlier in the meet, he placed second in the 110m hurdles in 17.97.

Teaming up for a district title in the 4x100m relay was the Eagle quartet of Nathan Hollis, Zach Schwartze, Brenden Crowe and Stricklan in a time of 47.65. This came after they were disqualified in the 4x200m relay.

Pacing themselves to a third-place time of 9:23.29 in the 4x800m relay was the Vienna boy’s team of Jehoshua Casey, Wyatt Coons, Samuel Douglas and Caleb Horman. They now just need a top-four finish Saturday in sectional action at Carl Junction to advance to the MSHSAA Track and Field Championships the weekend of May 17-18 at Jefferson City High School’s Adkins Stadium.

Horman was not done after his leg of the 4x800m relay.

Competing in the 1600m and 3200m runs, the Eagle sophomore distance runner placed third in both events running times of 5:00.49 and 11:09.74 respectively.

Nearly ending the meet with another district title, Vienna’s boy’s 4x400m relay team of Timmy Schwartze, Coons, Hogshooter and Andrews finished second with a time of 3:56.43 behind Liberal’s winning time of 3:45.25.

Clearing nine feet in the boys pole vault, sophomore Evan Casey finished in a three-way tie for fifth just missing advancing to sectionals by one place.

Amassing 34 points as a team, Vienna’s girls placed 10th in the teams standings out of 16 schools.

Clearing 4-06 in the high jump, sophomore Rhea Helton punched her individual ticket to sectionals Saturday in Carl Junction.

Kadence George was the next Lady Eagle with a top-four finish posting a second-place mark of 106-08 in the girls javelin.

Grabbing the final sectional qualifying spot in the girls 4x200m relay with a fourth-place time of 2:10.46 was the Lady Eagle quartet of Annalise Jordan, Sadie Novak, Helton and George.

At the end of the meet, it was the same story for the Lady Eagles in the girls 4x400m relay.

Edging Osceola by two-tenths of a second, the Vienna girls 4x400m relay team of Delana Obenauer, George, Novak and Jordan posted a fourth-place time of 5:05.16.
